Evacuated from their home in London during WWII, two young siblings are sent to live with a troubled family in the Welsh countryside in this Masterpiece Theatre drama. At the start of World War II, 14-year-old Carrie and her younger brother Nick are sent to live with the puritanical shopkeeper Mr. Evans and his spinster sister Lou in a rural village in Wales. Carrie and Nick's fortunes soon change for the better after meeting Mr. Evans' estranged sister, a self-possessed witch named Hepzibah. Based on the book by Nina Bawden, the film stars Alun Armstong, Lesley Sharp and Keeley Fawacett. |
