A&E explores the public and private life of Thomas Alva Edison, from his Midwestern childhood to his years of international acclaim. The program reveals little-known stories behind some of Edison's 1,049 patents and inventions, including the light bulb, phonograph and movie camera, using rare film footage and expert commentary. Featuring an interview Edison's great-grandson, the program also examines details of Edison's personal life, from his long quest to develop the light bulb and his supposed lack of schooling to the devastating effects of fame on his home life and his first wife's suicide.
