This program documents Isaac Stern's month-long 1979 tour of China after this country re-opened its doors to the West. During the trip, Stern visited schools and performed concerts and individual student sessions that helped bridge the gap between this country and its people with the West. The program also includes a short film entitled Musical Encounters that documents Stern's return to China 20 years later. This program won the 1981 Academy Award for Best Documentary. Directed by Murray Lerner and Allan Miller. Produced by Sonoko Aoyagi Bowers, Murray Lerner and Margaret Smilow. |
