All About Blood & The Heart introduces young viewers to the body's own delivery service -- the circulatory system. This fascinating program takes a close-up look at the components of this vital body system: the heart, blood vessels and blood. Kids will discover that blood carries oxygen and nutrients to every cell in our bodies, while also removing waste products that our cells no longer need. Viewers also learn the important role that white blood cells play in protecting our bodies from disease and how platelets help a wound stop bleeding through a process called clotting. Blood typing and the importance of donating blood are discussed during a visit to a blood bank, and kids learn about the heart as they make their own stethoscope in a fun, hands-on activity. Part of the multivolume Human Body for Children Video Series in the Schlessinger Science Library. Part of the Schlessinger Science Library for Children Collection. This title is based on the concepts outlined in the National Science Education Standards for Life Science: characteristics of organisms, life cycles of organisms and organisms & environments. A teacher's guide is included and available online. |
