In The History of Canada, part of the three-volume series Canada for Children (the other titles are The Culture of Canada and The Geography of Canada), viewers meet American transplant Jessica, who will need some help from her new Canadian classmates. “Moving to a new country is scary!” comments one student sympathetically (although few Americans would consider their northern neighbor an exotic foreign land). With the aid of solid archival footage and good maps and graphics, the Canadian kids energetically present a whirlwind history of their country, from the rise of the First Nations and Inuit peoples and later arrival of the Europeans up to the development of present-day culture and government (with constant, helpful parallels to American history and culture). Snappily edited and jam-packed with fun facts, this is recommended.
