This documentary tells the story of how a group of African-American artists triumphed over prejudice and segregation to create one of the 20th century's richest artistic movements. Using rare archival footage, newsreels and photographs, the program recalls Harlem's vibrancy during the Roaring Twenties, highlighting the influential exhibitions and galleries as well as significant figures such as William E. Harmon, W.E.B. Du Bois and Alain Locke. Narrated by Joe Morton, the program features over 130 paintings, prints, photographs and sculptures from the era, along with interviews with surviving artists and historians.
