Poet and author Ntozake Shange reflects on her childhood encounters with great figures in African-American history in this iconographic program, based on the Parents' Choice Gold Award-winning book. Featuring illustrations by Kadir Nelson, the text of the story comes from Shange's poem 'Mood Indigo,' originally published in a collection entitled A Daughter's Geography. The program pays tribute to the African-American community of old. Shange recalls her childhood home where her family entertained men who changed the world, including Paul Robeson, W.E.B. DuBois, Dizzy Gillespie and Duke Ellington.
