This biographical program focuses on the life and times of writer John Steinbeck. Born in Salinas, California, in 1902, the novelist was noted for his writings about the economically depressed in the U.S., particularly the farm laborers of California. The Grapes of Wrath was his well-known novel about such characterization. Steinbeck's writings focused on the sea, traveling and common people. He won a Pulitzer Prize in 1940 and the Nobel Prize for literature in 1962. |
