PRODUCT SUMMARY
For sale in the U.S. and Canada only-- The legendary city of Carthage on the coast of present-day Tunisia was the home of Hannibal, whom many historians call the greatest military commander of all time. Descendants of the Phoenicians, the Carthaginians were the undisputed rulers of the sea by the third century BCE, dotting the Mediterranean region with busy trading outposts. In a battle for supremacy of the ancient world, Hannibal attacked Rome with an enormous army, which included dozens of war elephants. Students will learn that, despite sensational early victories, Hannibal was eventually defeated and Carthage totally destroyed by vengeance-seeking Roman legions.
A Teacher's Guide is included and is available online.
