PRODUCT SUMMARY

The seven colorful countries of Central America come alive in this program about life there and how immigrants from those countries have brought their traditions to North America. Children learn how to say some words in Spanish, take a field trip to a shop where beautiful Guatemalan weavings are sold, visit a Salvadoran grocery store to buy chiles, tortillas, rice and other treats from Central American cuisine, learn how to make a decorative weaving and enjoy an animated Mayan folktale called The Chirimia. The program concludes with "El Torito Pinto," a traditional folk song about a baby bull. Part of the American Cultures for Children DVD Series, which introduces children to the rich tapestry of world cultures thriving in America today. Features Tony Award-winning actress Phylicia Rashad. A teacher's guide is included and is available online.
