PRODUCT SUMMARY

In the days before radio and television, President Woodrow Wilson was considered one of the greatest orators of his generation. Wilson was wildly popular with the American electorate for his pledge to keep the United States out of the Great War, but by 1917, the Zimmerman note and unrestricted U-boat attacks pressured him to ask Congress for a declaration of war. Students will learn that America's entry broke the deadlock of relentless trench warfare and led to Wilson's "Fourteen Points" speech, which he believed would drastically reduce the chance of future wars. Part of the multivolume Greatest Speeches of the 20th Century: Voices in Time Series. A Teacher's Guide is included and available online.
