PRODUCT SUMMARY

Anne Shirley has grown to be 18 years old and has remained at Green Gables with Marilla Cuthbert. Taking a position as a teacher at Avonlea's school, she has put her ambition to become a celebrated author aside for now. Gilbert Blythe, Anne's childhood rival, has become a good friend and confidant. He is entering medical school and is in love with Anne. He tries in vain to convince her to marry him; yet, Anne remains as imaginative and romantic as ever, as she dreams of some day meeting her ideal man.

Anne is disappointed and hurt to learn her once "bosom friend," Diana Barry, intends to marry the business-like and unromantic Fred Wright. Pondering the wedding, she laments, "Why does everyone have to grow up...and marry...and change?" The opportunity arises for Anne to teach at an exclusive private girls school in Kingsport, Nova Scotia. Anne's desire to see and do more with her life begins to cloud her ever-changing relationships with Gilbert and Diana. Anne is soon convinced she must leave. She departs without reconciling matters with Gilbert. Based on the classic by Lucy Maud Montgomery. Starring Megan Follows, Colleen Dewhurst and Jonathan Crombie. Please note that this program content reflects that of Anne of Avonlea.
