PRODUCT SUMMARY

This title is still available for purchase, however we recommend the completely new DVD title Sustainability in the 21st Century from the Environmental Science for Students DVD series which is also from Schlessinger Media.

The average American throws away 3.5 lbs of trash each day. This program scrutinizes our throw-away mentality and the vast waste management problems it has created. The most promising solution presented in this program is "pre-cycling," or source reduction, which forces product designers and manufacturers to create products with packaging that considers recycling in every way. The Earth at Risk Scholars visit a polluted creek and collect trash to determine how it might have been recycled. Recycling choices for paper, glass, metal, plastic, tires and organic wastes are also discussed. Part of The Earth at Risk Environmental Video Series that examines the threats facing Earth and the environment.

EDITORIAL REVIEWS

"...The Earth at Risk series is highly recommended...Editor's Choice." - Video Librarian

"The videos present up-to-date facts about the topic with charts, computer graphics, statistical facts, and interviews with environmentalists and other scientists. Each program moves quickly and smoothly from segment to segment; the segments featuring teenage students will especially appeal to teen viewers who will be able to duplicate the experiments themselves." - School Library Journal

"The series message...is effectively made...well produced...Good choices for school and public libraries."- Library Journal
