PRODUCT SUMMARY

This title is still available for purchase, however we recommend the more recent series Animal Life In Action VHS series which is also from Schlessinger Media.

Four thousand to 6,000 plants and animals become extinct each year, and the number is escalating at an alarming rate. This program examines the causes of extinction, both natural and human, from the disappearance of the dinosaurs to current efforts to protect animals like the African elephant and the humpback whale. Biologist Mason Weinrich explores the importance of maintaining a safe habitat for animals and making sure their food chain is protected. Problems like human overpopulation and economic demands for plant and animal products are also considered. Part of The Earth at Risk Environmental Video Series that examines the threats facing Earth and the environment.

"...The Earth at Risk series is highly recommended...Editor's Choice." - Video Librarian

"The videos present up-to-date facts about the topic with charts, computer graphics, statistical facts, and interviews with environmentalists and other scientists. Each program moves quickly and smoothly from segment to segment; the segments featuring teenage students will especially appeal to teen viewers who will be able to duplicate the experiments themselves." - School Library Journal
