After school, Devie helps her mom prepare dinner and then lights the traditional lamp at nightfall before evening prayer. During the annual Onam festivities, Devie's extended family gathers to enjoy good food and traditional dance in each other's company. A Teacher's Guide is included and available online.

EDITORIAL REVIEWS

"...Recommended."- Video Librarian (Nov/Dec 2003)

"The importance of family and cultural heritage is stressed...this glimpse into other children's lives is interesting and would provide excellent compare/contrast opportunities..."- School Library Journal (Sept 2003)
