PRODUCT SUMMARY

For sale in U.S. and Canada only-- In Inclined Planes, inhabitants of Mammoth Island have decided to smash boulders into bits by dropping them off a wooden tower to make gravel for their new roads. While this method does produce gravel, the islanders find it is difficult and even dangerous to hoist boulders up the side of a tower. A young islander, Olive, suggests that they roll the boulders up a ramp instead of hauling them up the tower, and proves that it takes less effort to roll the boulders up an inclined plane, thereby allowing them to get the job done more easily! Part of the multivolume series The Way Things Work, based on the best-selling book by David Macaulay. Includes a Teacher's Guide.

EDITORIAL REVIEWS

"The series is humorous, informative and very educational. Explanations are clear and relevant, with neccesary diagrams to explain exactly how things work...These are exceptional physics videos that merit a place in all educational collections."- School Library Journal (August 2003)

"...exceptional...engaging and well-produced...The science is accurate and appropriate for third- through sixth-grade students...a tool teachers can use."- NSTA Recommends (7/18/05)
