The Lion and the Mouse, and "stars" the little "I" sound. As the book is read aloud to the young lions, Leona and Lionel, the text is shown and highlighted to allow viewers to read along. The story is paralleled in the episode by using the moral, "You're never too small to be helpful," and featuring Click the library mouse. Lionel and Leona are so impressed by the little brown mouse in the story that they decide to start a fan club, which makes Click jealous. She feels that no one appreciates her and decides to run away. Of course, everyone makes up and all ends happily. Interwoven into the story is the "starring" role of the little "I" sound, which is used in skits involving puppets, live action, and animation. Children will enjoy the silliness, laughing, and singing along while they learn the sound of the day and its use in many words. The content is clear and logically organized, and the visual and aural quality is good. The live action, animation, and puppets work together to present an exciting and entertaining show. Even adults will laugh at the silly skits, like Dr. Ruth Wordheimer (featuring Dr. Ruth Westheimer) who helps sound out large words, and Denyce Graves who sings the sound of the day. A great choice for libraries.
