Gr 1-6-Diverse children of different ages and ethnicities help elementary students understand money and business and encourage them to become financially responsible. These children address questions about money such as: What is money? Why do we use money? How do people get money? How can kids get money? What do we do with it? There is a great deal of information packed into this fast-paced video. Some topics such as investments, the stock market, the Bureau of Engraving, and the U.S. Mint are only briefly introduced and may need some clarification, especially for younger viewers. Children use narration, music, live-action video, and graphics to answer the questions and give numerous examples from their own lives. The practical examples of students earning and spending money are realistic and will stimulate ideas for viewers. Examples also show the value of mathematics. The video and audio aspects are clear and attractive, and the information is clearly organized. Although primary age children are included, the extensive financial terms and vocabulary may make this too complex for them. Adult guidance is needed to expand on the information and vocabulary. A useful tool for introducing money and for stimulating further discussion about spending, earning, saving, and investing it.
