(1902-1993) Marian Anderson's great voice toppled the barriers of racial prejudice, and she became an internationally renowned singer. She blazed the trail for other African-American artists, opening many doors previously closed to them. She established a scholarship program for vocalists of all races and served as a member of the U.S. delegation of the United Nations, collecting honorary doctorates from eight universities for her services.
