A highly spiritual, nomadic tribe who lived across a wide area of North America, the Apache lived off the land and traveled by foot until Europeans brought horses. As European white culture encroached on Apache hunting grounds, the Apache fought for their survival. This program looks at the life of the medicine man, Geronimo, Apache efforts to resist assimilation and the effects of the Indian Reorganization Act. Currently, as some Apache people deal with common social foes such as alcoholism and unemployment, many are returning to old values such as the strength of family and the importance of living in harmony with the land.
