(1908-1993) Born in a racially divisive time, Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall was compelled to make a career as a lawyer and justice devoted to the elimination of legalized segregation of blacks and whites in all facets of life. Marshall challenged the courts to integrate schools and became known as "The Crusader for Social Justice." This program covers his most important accomplishments and cases, including Brown vs. the Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas, and the civil rights victory in 1967, which ultimately led to his nomination for Supreme Court Justice. Part of the Black Americans of Achievement Video Collection that celebrates the most influential African Americans in history. |
