PRODUCT SUMMARY


An African-American sharecropper's family struggles to survive the Great Depression in this live-action adaptation of the Newbery Award-winning book by William A. Armstrong, starring Cicely Tyson and Paul Winfield. Set in Louisiana during the Depression, the film tells the story of sharecropper Nathan Lee Morgan, who is arrested for stealing food to feed his hungry family. With Nathan in prison, his wife and children must struggle to survive the economic depression and prejudice of the 1930s South while hoping for a more promising future.
